DESIGN CHALLENGE:
Design a print publication that promotes a selected collection from the Smithsonian’s Cooper
Hewitt Museum. Curate imagery and conduct research to inform your
concept and visual direction. Using Adobe InDesign, develop
a cohesive visual system
integrating typography, imagery, and messaging. Consider narrative
flow, pacing, and hierarchy throughout the publication. Ensure your design responds
thoughtfully to the target
audience while aligning with Cooper Hewitt’s brand identity.
CREATIVE SOLUTION:
The collection itself featured endless swatches, sketches, and in-process pieces that gave
immeasurable insights into the true character and personality of Dorothy Liebes. In order to adequately represent the
collection in its entirety,
this publication intentionally highlights the process and design
thinking of the textile designer, as opposed to only focusing on finished products. The individual textile samples and
scaled sketchbook pages adding background texture and interest hone in on this process-driven
approach while still showcasing finished products like furniture
pieces and clothing items on a single page. Combining all these elements is essential to telling the story of the designer; while simultaneously maintaining the
professional and polished look of other Cooper Hewitt publications and brand touchpoints.
